Buying a pool cue can be overwhelming, especially if you’re new to the game. But with some guidance, it can be a fun and exciting process. With so many different cues available, it can be hard to know where to start. That’s why we’ve compiled some general guidelines to help you make an informed decision.

Want some help? We’re happy to walk you through it in person or virtually. Click here to make an appointment so we can give you our full attention.

Try Before You Buy: The best advice we can offer to find the perfect cue for you is to try a variety of quality cues and purchase the one that feels right to you. At Skillful Home Recreation, we have a wide selection of high-quality cues to try on one of our Olhausen Pool Tables. We’ll set you up and give you the space to really play and take your time to ensure you find the cue that fits your playing style.

When selecting a cue, skill level matters less than you may think. If you’re a beginner, it may make financial sense to start with a quality, but less expensive cue. As you develop your skills, you can upgrade to a cue with advanced features like low deflection shafts for more accuracy. However, that said, everyone can benefit from quality, so consider purchasing the very best cue you can afford and using it exclusively.

Cost:  While we also carry a variety of one-piece house cues that are less expensive, our two-piece cues range in price from about $120 to several thousand dollars. If you are serious about learning to play pool and want your own cue, we recommend saving for a quality cue in that price range rather than buying something cheaper that is not well crafted and does not have a good warranty.

Construction and warranty: All of our cues are made from high-quality maple and are warrantied for warp-age and defects, so you can have peace of mind when making your purchase.

Weight: The weight of most of our cues can be adjusted and tailored to you, so you can find the perfect weight for your playing style. The weight and balance of a pool cue can have a big impact on your game, but there is no magic formula. The cue that feels comfortable in your hand and has a weight that suits your playing style is the right one for you.

Wrap or no wrap? The wrap on a cue is a matter of personal preference. We offer cues with and without wraps, so you can try both and see what feels right to you.

At our Skillful Home Recreation, we’re passionate about pool and want to help you find the perfect cue to enhance your game. Stop by, make an appointment and try out our cues to see the difference quality makes.
