Why a Playset Makes Sense at Camp
Skillful Home Recreation was proud to be chosen to provide a Rainbow Play System for a family-focused cabin project featured in the Season 13 finale of Maine Cabin Masters.
Our part was brief on screen, as is often the case with vendor involvement in television projects. But it was a delight to see the finished playset become part of the outdoor reveal for the kids — and to see how quickly they understood what it was for.
They ran straight to it.
That moment said a lot about why a Rainbow Play System can make so much sense at a Maine camp, cabin, lake house, or family property.
A Place for Kids Outside
Summer camps and cabins are often small, while the family group gathered there can be quite large.
Grandparents, parents, cousins, friends, guests, and visiting families may all be sharing the same indoor space. That is part of the charm of camp — but it also means the outdoors becomes part of the living room.
A playset gives children a place of their own outside.
It becomes a destination. A fort. A lookout. A clubhouse. A place to climb, swing, slide, imagine, and make up games while the adults cook, unpack, visit, or simply enjoy the property.
For families with children, grandchildren, cousins, renters, or summer guests, that can change the way the whole property works.
More Than Something to Do
A good playset is not just a way to keep kids busy.
At a camp, cabin, or lake house, it can become part of the rhythm of the day. Children run to it in the morning. They return to it between swims, meals, and family activities. They make up games there. They meet cousins there. They remember it later as part of the place.
That is one of the reasons Rainbow Play Systems are such a strong fit for family properties. They are substantial cedar play structures designed for climbing, swinging, sliding, and imaginative play — the kind of play that can stretch across ages and across summers.
Chosen for a Maine Cabin Masters Family Project
The cabin project was featured in the Season 13 finale of Maine Cabin Masters, titled “Team Building a Forever Home.”
Skillful Home Recreation was proud to provide the Rainbow Play System for the family’s outdoor space. The show connection was special, of course, but the more meaningful part was seeing how naturally the playset fit the moment.
The kids did what kids do when something feels inviting and exciting.
They ran to it.
For us, that was the whole story.
A great playset gives children their own place in the landscape — not separate from the family experience, but part of it.
A Good Fit for Camps, Cabins, Lake Houses & Rentals
A Rainbow Play System can be a thoughtful addition to many Maine properties, including:
- Family camps
- Lake houses
- Cabins
- Vacation rentals
- Seasonal homes
- Grandparent homes
- Larger family properties
- Backyards where kids and guests gather often
For rental properties, a playset can also help make a family stay feel more memorable. We would not suggest choosing one only as a marketing feature, but for properties that regularly welcome families with children, it can become a real part of the guest experience.
For private family camps, the value is often even simpler: it gives kids somewhere to go, something to do, and a place that feels like theirs.

Planning the Right Playset for the Property
Every property is different.
Some families have open lawn space. Others have wooded lots, lake views, uneven ground, septic considerations, driveway access, or shared outdoor areas. Some want a compact playset for younger children. Others want a larger structure that can serve cousins, guests, and a wider age range.
Skillful Home Recreation helps families think through the practical questions:
- Where should the playset go?
- How much space is available?
- What ages will use it?
- How many children may be playing at once?
- Should the playset feel compact, adventurous, or expandable?
- What installation considerations matter for the site?
A Rainbow Play System is not a small toy. It is a substantial outdoor structure, and careful planning helps it become part of the property in the right way.

Summer camps are often small and the group gathered together quite large. Living and playing outdoors is the plan.
For families with children, grandchildren, cousins, renters, or summer guests, a playset can give kids their own outdoor destination and help the whole property work better.
